LEGENDARY STUDENTS
Which high school did you attend
and what made it memorable, if
anything?
I went to Crawford College in Durban,
and I think the most memorable part
for me was all the sport that I did
there. I played Rugby when I was in
school and continued to play when I
went to university.

the property industry. I want to have
my own business or be doing my own
investments. It takes quite a bit longer
when you’re working in property. It
doesn’t necessarily mean I want to be
a businessman per se, but I definitely
want to be investing in property on my
own and making my own decisions on
where to invest.
What led you to study at the CEM
department? What programme
did you choose and why?
I chose to go into property studies
because my family is already involved
in the property sector. I carried it
through until my Honours year, and
from there I decided it was time for
me to start working in the sector.
What prizes have you been

Is what you’re doing now
different from what you initially
thought you would be doing?
Doing a property studies degree
typically sets you up to be a property
valuer, property manager or asset
manager. Initially, I thought I wanted
to get into asset management. I’m
currently working for Signature as a
project manager. So, it’s a bit different
to what I initially thought, but project
management is very similar to asset
management. Although the various
property roles differ, they are all
interconnected in some way. That’s
why I decided to branch into property
development, to take on a more
hands-on and involved role within the
industry.

My favourite prize was the Robert
Martin Prize because Robert Martin
is very well known in the property
valuation industry. He presented the
prize personally, which felt very special.
What or who inspires you and why?
My dad definitely inspires me the
most in life. He taught me to go
beyond working itself, and to look
forward to the time you have after
work. I love spending time outdoors
and my dad taught me about worklife balance. Those values have been
instilled in me.

What are your goals for the
future?
I don’t want to just be working in
