LEGENDARY STUDENTS
EDITORS NOTE: Justine Braaf is a high achiever and currently doing her BSc
(honours) in Property Studies. She won the Class Award for the BSc in Property
Studies third year cohort at this year’s Prize Giving Ceremony for her performance
in 2024. The Class Award is given to the best overall student of the respective class.
Which high school did you attend
and what made it memorable, if
anything?
I went to Camps Bay High. I thought it
was normal, but upon meeting people
from other places, other schools,
I learned that Camps Bay is actually
a very diverse school.
that one would. Personally, a nine-tofive office life terrifies me. And it feels
a bit like a part of the rat race. I want to
be able to work for myself and get to a
place where I can be independent. I want
to be able to live life in a way that I enjoy
and not have work be the core focus.

What led you to study at the CEM
department? What programme
did you choose and why?
I chose to study a Bachelor of Science
in Property Studies because it was the
only thing that I actually had an interest
in. I never knew what I wanted to study
throughout my high school career, and
then I did an aptitude test. I mentioned
that property was something I’d be
interested in, but I didn’t know BSc in
property studies existed. Later, I found
out about it and I applied. I got in and
haven’t regretted it since.

The first significant achievement that
comes to mind is that I’ve formed a friend
group in my classes that do the same
degree as me. It might sound cheesy,
but that’s something I’m really proud of.
What are your goals for the future?
They relate to my seven-year-old
self’s goals for the future. I want to take
this degree and apply it in my life, but
not necessarily in the objective ways
What or who inspires you and why?
I feel like I’ve never had a good
answer for this question, but I’m
actually going to have to say myself.
I think my biggest motivation in
everything I’ve done has been from my
own drive, which I formed as a little girl.
Obviously, my upbringing has maybe
contributed to it, but I would say it’s
been a pretty internal force as opposed
to external.
Is what you’re doing now different
to what you initially wanted to do?
Originally, in about grade 10, I was
thinking of doing a BCom. Engineering
came across my mind at some point,
and maybe business science. But the
second that property studies came
onto my radar, I was set on that.
