LEGENDARY ACADEMICS
were moving in the right direction
at the right time, an ideal market is
“one in which most of the market is
functioning efficiently.”
As part of URERU, Professor
Viruly is determined to broaden
people’s understanding of the
property market. “In our research,
we go the whole way from the
glitzy office building to the shack,
and we deal with everything in
between.” He adds that “one of
the fundamental objectives of the
Urban Real Estate Research Unit
is to be a fairly neutral platform in
which different stakeholders feel
comfortable, whether it’s the public
sector, private sector, activist groups,
and others.” This sentiment reaches
the core of who Professor Viruly is
as a lecturer and researcher. He has
played an active role in furthering real
estate research across the African
continent through the African Real
Estate Society (AfRES). This had
also included supporting the Journal
of African Real Estate Research
(JARER).
