hido Chikumbu is
explaining her life
from a hotel in Hanoi,
Vietnam. She is there
as part of a Master’s in
International Marketing
from France-based Emlyon Business
School. It’s a long way from Cape Town,
and an even longer way from the UCT
Property Studies degree she graduated
ISSUE 2
with. The journey that connects these
disparate points is not one of straight
lines, but one of pivots, unexpected life
lessons, and the decision to dismantle
a perfectly good life in pursuit of one
with more meaning.
For seven years, Chikumbu was
a banker. It was a stable, successful
career she had built after leaving
Zimbabwe for South Africa as a child
