CEM FUTURE
has described this situation as “not
unique” to the real estate industry
and could be neutralised with the
increase of women entering (or reentering) the workspace.
Today, Kim serves as the Chief
Investment Officer at Spear REIT
Limited, becoming the first and
at the moment, the only woman
appointed as an executive at Spear.
“I am proud to be the first woman on
the executive management team of
Spear!” She describes the workplace
at Spear REIT to be diverse with
females making up about fifty
percent (50%) of the workforce. Kim
also makes the time to serve as a
board member for UCT Department
of Construction Economics &
Management and is also the ViceChair of the Women’s Property
Network for the Western Cape. Kim’s
advice to young people hoping to
make it in real estate is to identify
their passion and area of interest as
real estate and property has a number
of different specialities.
“Practice good work ethic, work
hard – consistently, be reliable, foster
openness, partnership and trust and
always continue to learn. Focus on the
process and the results will take care
of themselves” Kim also shared during
the interview.
The loving mother of an eleven-yearold boy, Kim pointed out happiness as
her measure for success. “Being happy
at work and being happy at home.
If one of them is out of kilter for too
long, you need to make a change,” she
states. She states how critical it is to
maintain a healthy work-life balance
and managing both as well as your
mental health. During her down time,
she enjoys spending time with her son
and other loved ones. She is a lover of
the outdoors, photography, trying new
foods and wines.
