and safety standards. Recently, their
efforts have been focussed on building
and formalising daycares in Vrygrond,
a community in Muizenberg.
Bluemoon Projects is a family-run
organisation; Hillary Faulmann is the
Founder and Director of Operations,
with her husband and son on board
as Director of Projects, Procurement
and Maintenance and Director of
Construction, Architecture and
Quantity Surveying respectively.
The CEM department had to end
their community building week in
September due to the changes in gang
leadership in the areas of interest and
due to threats from the construction
mafia. In 2022, the CEM department
had a community build in Paarl that
saw 120 students on site. However, with
the students’ safety being paramount,
the department has decided to opt for
a new initiative, which Le Jeune refers
to as ‘Do It Days’.
ISSUE 1
As of August 2024, the CEM
department has hosted three
‘Do It Days’; one on Youth Day,
another on Freedom Day and the
most recent one on the 27th of July.
‘Do it Days’ are contained to a safe
and specific site. Le Jeune recruits
25 students who are willing to
volunteer. Bluemoon then provides
the department with a list of
required materials, buses, food and
paramedics for the day. The students
then spend the day immersed in the
local community, gaining invaluable
practical experience.
So far, all the ‘Do It Days’ have
taken place at a Christian community
centre in Franschhoek. The centre,
which also doubles as a soup kitchen,
is spearheaded by Pastor Archie
and his wife. Pastor Archie is also a
warden at the Drakenstein Prison, and
he will dress in his prison warden’s
uniform while on-site with the
