MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH
BLUEMOON
PROJECTS

n the 17th of
August, 2024,
Bluemoon Projects
hosted their
annual charity
banquet at the
Cullinan Hotel. This year’s
philanthropic event was to promote
the efforts of Bluemoon’s associate
organisation, the International
Community Empowerment (ICE),
which manages and maintains links
between benefactors and recipients
of international and local bursaries
and sponsorships. However, the
Construction and Economics
Management department fell into
the spotlight.
ISSUE 1
Since 2006, the CEM department
has hosted an annual volunteering
effort for first-year students. The
first year of this endeavour was a
collaboration between the department
and the Niall Mellon Township Trust.
Niall Mellon is an Irish philanthropist
who established a house-building
charity in 2002 after witnessing the
dire need for housing while on holiday
in Cape Town. His construction
company in Ireland would cast the
slabs, which would be sent to the
Western Cape, where hundreds of
European volunteers would build
around 250 homes in a week.
During this partnership, CEM
students would spend one week on-
