Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Fumani Mashaba, born
and raised in a small town known
as Giyani in Limpopo. I hold a BSc
in Construction Studies degree and
I am currently pursuing my Honours
degree in Construction Management.
I am currently the Honours class
representative and employed with
GVK-Siya Zama Construction as a
Junior Quality Surveyor.
As a person who came from
previously disadvantaged background
with poor educational systems, the
transition into tertiary education was
a challenging one, the pandemic year
further brought more challenges.
With resilience, hard work and
support structures at UCT however,
I managed to get through my
undergraduate degree and got an
opportunity to pursue my Honours.
The journey has been an amazing
rollercoaster with lots of fun and
growth, one I have embraced and so
grateful to have been awarded the
opportunity. The people I have met
