How have you found your
experience so far?
I had studied prior to coming
to UCT so I already knew the traps
most students fall into, however, that
did not make any easier. At first, the
workload seems to be overwhelming,
and it seems you have dug a hole for
yourself. The mentorship programme
for first year students put me in
a space with students who were
going through the same issues and
with a mentor who was in a similar
position before us. That showed us
there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Avoiding to fall behind with the work
has been a huge part in my success
and the ability to ask the lecturers for
assistance.

experience and knowing the right
partners, I can collaborate in starting
a construction company.
How have you found your
leadership position in the
department? What has it
taught you?
I have learned a lot through the years
in terms of leadership, having met the
leaders in the department and being
mentored by some lecturers played
a huge role in my development.
Now I know how to prioritise tasks
more efficiently, I have better time
management, I have learned to
work in harsh environments and to
motivate my team. Being a leader in
the department has taught me to be
a better person in some instances.
Also, I can help motivate others to
reach their goals.

What made you pursue this
degree?
I have always been intrigued
by the construction process of a
building, but with lack of knowledge,
I thought it was only Civil engineers
on site. As I grew, my love for the
industry grew, and I started to
research a profession that will suit my
personality and interests. I stumbled
across Construction Management and
was hooked from there.

Do you have any advice for
prospective students and
applicants who wish to be
where you are now?
My best advice is to believe in
yourself. I have seen people push
boundaries no one thought they
could push. University is all about
managing the work and having the
discipline to do what needs to be
done. So I plead with you, please try
not fall behind with your work.

What are your future
aspirations? What do you plan
on pursuing after graduation?
After graduating, I would like to
work as a Construction Manager.
Having enjoyed being in leadership
roles, I also have an interest in
entrepreneurship, so I am planning
on starting small businesses as
time goes. And maybe with enough
